So, last night while performing my nightly ritual of skimming the internet for interesting vehicles, I came upon this little beauty, a 1970 Porsche 911T Targa. Now, as you have probably ascertained by this post's headline, I think this is a terrific starter car for anyone who has always wanted a Porsche. So, why do I feel this way? For starters, it is a convertible and most people, whether they admit it or not, like convertibles, especially classic ones. Second, this car is in terrific shape to be a DD or simply a weekend car. It is a car you would be thrilled to show others and take to car shows but not in such pristine shape that you would worry about ever taking it out of the garage. Third, the engine has been rebuilt and therefore should provide for many trouble free miles. Fourth, the Light Blue paint and subtly beautiful exterior of the 911T combine to make this vehicle a refined stunner, at least in my opinion. Fifth, this vehicle has apparently been owned by an enthusiast, which leads me to believe that it was well taken care of. Finally, it's price of $39,500, while not cheap, means that you can own a classic Porsche for a reasonable amount of money.

'Tis quite nice. I even like the color.

Incredible color

I like everything about it, except its color. A darker blue would look great on this car.

I do too.

Indeed.

They're asking double what I'd consider paying for it.

Like these?
Gulf Blue:
Bali Blue:

Hmm. I don't think the price is that egregious.
In other news, have you seen this?

Bali, for sure.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 15:44 |

Good choice. I really think Porsche should start offering it as a factory color again.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 15:45 |

Whoa
I've never seen one for sale in the US. Nice find.

mmm, yes they should. It'd be awesome to have an old and new Targa, both in Bali blue, and park them next to each other in the garage.

I thought you might like it.

The carbureted 911T & targa models are the last chance for enthusiasts of relatively modest means to own a longnose 911.

That is the color of my Land Rover. I'll take it!!!!
![]() 11/12/2014 at 15:50 |

It would indeed. Fortunately, I know that they do offer it through PTS but not many people have taken advantage of it except this RS 4.0 owner.

Exactly.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 15:52 |

Really? That's pretty cool.

Cool find, but it's no 750GT Bi-Turbo
Which is, unfortunately, a photoshop. But its absolutely amazing and I wish it was real. I would sell my left nut and a kidney for this.

Also, this car

Wow, that looks good. That said, I do love the graphics package for the RS 4.0, especially on a white car. It'd be a tough choice, for sure.

Wow that would be very cool.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:03 |

Damn it! You know I love Aston Martins and the color blue!
I might have to make a call now.

I prefer a clean look to cars but that's just me.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:05 |

LOL sorry. That blue is just....ugh I can't even describe it. Keep in mind it is in the UK, but I assume shipping isn't a problem for you. I'd be scared that something might happen during transit though.

I love the dash in older 911s. It's crazily laid out aside from the main dials, but there's just something right about all the wrongness.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:13 |
|
Indeed. Now, I'm quite annoyed I didn't get my DB5 in that back in the day.
No, shipping wouldn't be the problem, importing is. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection are a "challenging" group to deal with, especially when it isn't a U.S. spec car. I'll have to call a friend and do some research.
Very nice but I'd rather have this:

True. It just all seems to work somehow.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:17 |
|
It seems strange that they're so hard to deal with. I can't really think of any issues that would come up as long as the car is more than 25 years old.
That car is very good looking. The lines are great. To be honest with you, I don't really like the hood scoop.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:29 |

I should just buy that residence in Europe so I can avoid all of these issues.
Some didn't have it.

You two are killing me.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:37 |

We do our best.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:46 |

This is another option. But I assume you'd end up buying ALL the cars.
Oooo that looks good.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:51 |
|
True and I would hate to leave them unused for potentially months on end.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:53 |
|
That's probably why I'd never do something like that. Owning too many cars that results in me not being able to drive them enough is one of my greatest fears.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 16:55 |
|
Exactly.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:39 |

Mileage isn't stated and the sportomatic is a beast from hell to service. I would never trust that site. T 63 vette isn't a 63.

So, I have an update on the Aston. The company is able to deal with the ridiculousness for me:
"Part of our post sale services, all export facilities are provided by us to include: all export documentation, shipment and insurance to USA, local customs clearance and our local agent can complete all import requirement and finally local registration in your state."
Also, in case you're wondering, they are asking GBP 375,000. I'll have to talk to the wife to decide whether I'll move forward or not.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:38 |
|
WOW really?!?! That's great news!!! How nice of them to deal with all that hassle. I can't believe I was the catalyst for this. I keep looking at that car and it doesn't get any less beautiful. Good luck with convincing your wife, really.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:44 |
|
It is indeed. Most good companies do this, especially if they're dealing in rare, old cars since they usually end up getting exported, but I'm definitely happy I don't have to deal with it.
Thank you. I'll need it.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:45 |
|
I assume the typical god-figures they have to deal with don't like going through that hassle, so that makes sense.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:48 |
|
True. We have better things to do than trifling with that nonsense.
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:50 |
|
Hahaha. Only mere peasants should have to deal with these kinds of bureaucratic processes, am I right?
![]() 11/17/2014 at 14:52 |
|
You're exactly right.
